The market got off to a great start on Saturday, with sunny weather and stands overflowing. The market’s move into the upper lot adjacent to State Street went smoothly, creating a beautiful view of bright colored canopies down the entire market lot. The abundance of products that market vendors brought on this first market day was exciting to see!
Our first special event of the season will be on May 23–Shop with Chef Lee Duberman of Ariel’s Riverside Cafe and Bar. Join us at 10:30 a.m. to watch Chef Lee create beautiful salads with all the fresh spring greens available this time of year. The market will be hosting monthly “Shop with the Chef” events, live music, and our annual Youth Farmers Market on July 18th. More is in the works, and we’re looking forward to an event filled season.
Customers and vendors alike, were happy to see Paul and Cate of High Ledge Farm at market selling eggs. Not their usual spread of beautiful seedlings, but Paul assures that more will be coming soon. Member vendor and former board member of the Capital City Farmers Market, Paul Betz of High Ledge Farm lost his entire home and farm business to fire on April 9th. Luckily the family was away from home at the time, so no one was hurt. High Mowing Seeds, where Paul works in the off season, continues to accept donation for Paul and his family at www.highmowingseeds.com/paulandkate.html. Please visit the site and offer what you can to help this valued member of our market community!
