June at the Farmers’ Market

by Carolyn on Jun. 7, 2010

Whether you have planted your vegetable garden or joined a CSA, the Capital City Farmers’ Market always has fresh and local produce to offer — early in the season.

While you’re waiting for your garden to come in, come get your fresh, ripe tomatoes and wide variety mustard greens at Pete’s Greens; watercress, lamb’s quarters, and nettles at Le Page Farm; salad greens at Owl Hill Farm and Screamin Ridge Farm;  fresh herbs including basil, dill, thyme, and mint from a number of the vendors; beautiful bouquets of phlox, lupine, and sweet William at Fools Farm Flowers, and much, much more.

Still wanting to plant more food in your garden?  You can still get your vegetable and herb starts, perennial and annual bedding plants, and flower baskets at the market.

And as always, we have a variety of delicious prepared foods each week and beautiful crafts for sale.

June Strawberries!!

Come celebrate the first berries of summer at the Market’s Strawberry Day on June 26th (although we ALREADY have berries at our June 19th market.

  • Indulge in strawberry shortcakes made by River Rock School students from Berry Creek Farm strawberries, Red Hen Bakery shortcakes, and Butterworks Farm fresh whipped cream.
  • At noon, Ben Matchstick will perform Jack and the Giant Queller, a special show created for the market.
  • Visit the ReStore craft table and create your own artwork to honor the strawberry.
  • Check out the variety of products our market vendors will have featuring all the uses of the strawberry.  Come to the Garden of Seven Gables booth to learn how to make hand-milled strawberry soap.  Buy some honey balm made with strawberries or strawberry-infused honey.   Try tasty baked goods including strawberry fudge, strawberry Danish, and strawberry tarts.  Look for the strawberry signs to find all the strawberry products at the market.
